Did you know that October is National Bully Prevention Awareness Month?  2015 New Apple Award winner, Charlie's Birthday Wish, was written by a former educator for educators, counselors, and parents to help them in their character education efforts.  Although the story is serious in its message, it is light enough to entertain children at a critical stage of their social development. The book teaches children to consider how bullies can be misunderstood, remorseful, and even forgiven.  But it also explores the consequences faced by those who choose to be unkind.
